Hot Buy
by Tweetsnsylv

My Hot Buy comes from Feather Farm Catalog, one of my favorite online stores. Feather Farm Catalog offers an assortment of items, from cages to bird seed. Their bird cage prices can't be beat, and most of their cages offer free shipping to the lower 48 states! Now who can beat that?

The Hot Buy Item I have chosen is Parakeet, Finch & Canary Breeder Cage, but don't let the name fool you, it doesn't have to be used for breeding purposes. The cage is 32"Widex21"Deepx62"High, with 1/2" bar spacing. It comes with a removable bottom grid, two cups, two nest box doors, stand, casters and perches. And can be used for birds ranging in size, from finches to conures. A steal at $99.95! And it comes with the free shipping I talked about!

See the cage.

The book of the month is Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.

From the Publisher

From the Publisher In this literary tour de force, novelist Arthur Golden enters a remote and shimmeringly exotic world. For the protagonist of this peerlessly observant first novel is Sayuri, one of Japan's most celebrated geisha, a woman who is both performer and courtesan, slave and goddess. We follow Sayuri from her childhood in an impoverished fishing village, where in 1929, she is sold to a representative of a geisha house, who is drawn by the child's unusual blue-grey eyes. From there she is taken to Gion, the pleasure district of Kyoto. She is nine years old. In the years that follow, as she works to pay back the price of her purchase, Sayuri will be schooled in music and dance, learn to apply the geisha's elaborate makeup, wear elaborate kimono, and care for a coiffure so fragile that it requires a special pillow. She will also acquire a magnanimous tutor and a venomous rival. Surviving the intrigues of her trade and the upheavals of war, the resourceful Sayuri is a romantic heroine on the order of Jane Eyre and Scarlett O'Hara. And Memoirs of a Geisha is a triumphant work - suspenseful, and utterly persuasive.

Arcade Overview
by Meghanxx4

This weeks Game reviews are, Add Like Mad, Traffic Jam, and Evil Care Bears. For those who have never visited the arcade or have yet to try any games, I encourage you all to play some games and have some fun. You don’t even have to be great at games just have fun. The Arcade includes a selection of over 180 games, and daily tournaments and these are just a few games chosen from the arcade.

Add Like Mad: Add Like Mad is a great math game and is actually quite tricky sometimes. In Add Like Mad there will be a number shown at the bottom and you have to use as many numbers as possible to get the number shown. Each time there will be a new number shown and you only get a few minutes so you have to get rid of all the numbers fast.

Traffic Jam: Traffic Jam is challenging puzzle type game that is quite tricky for a lot of people I sure. The object of the game is to try and get the red car(s) past the exit and complete as many levels possible in the time. You can only move the cars the way there parked, you cannot turn the cars in anyway, you can only go back and forth in the line their in. You only have five minutes to complete as many levels possible so you have to think fast!

Evil Care Bears: Your Job in this game is to hit as many of the evil care bears as possible. The more bears you hit the longer time you get. Try and get the highest score in order to beat the rest of the players.

Thanks for reading the arcade review, hope to see more members playing games and getting high scores.

Rainbow Bridge Obituaries

Baby was a Nanday Conure 28years of age, when we first go thim. He was a rescue and a relinquished bird. My son would feed and water him everyday and pull him out of his cage to run arounda nd play with him. Baby would hold on to the collars on daytin's shirt for dear life while they went down the jungle gym and the slides. They bathed together, ate together, slept semi together... they did everything together. Baby was special, and for what he has done to help my son I will always miss and love him. Goodbye Baby, you are still loved and will always be missed.--Amanda (Taken from her post in the Rainbow Bridge)

New Arrival's
by JuliesGonnaDance

Budgie
Asim bought a two year old female budgie from his friend. She has gorgeous coloring and Asim just couldn’t leave her behind. She’s in quarantine now waiting to join the rest of Asim’s flock. We look forward to seeing more pictures of her and hearing about her on the forums.

Fresca and Domino
Meghan (meghanxx4) brought home two new budgies from the pet store. She saw the most beautiful budgies and a week later had to go back and get them. She ended up choosing Fresca and Domino. They are both adorable and we love seeing them on the forums!

Muffin
Isabelle (pipp) brought home a new little budgie girl on May 13th. Muffin is so adorable and we all love seeing pictures of her. We wish Isabelle and Muffin many happy years together.

Akoko, Akua, and Koffi
Jessika bred her Budgies and now has three cute and healthy chicks. Akoko, Akua, and Koffi are all adorable and we love seeing them. We wish them the best and can’t wait to watch them grow into beautiful, feathered adults.

Stunner
Angela (lethalfire) brought home a Cockatiel named Stunner on May 19th. She couldn’t leave him in the situation he was in, he was on an all seed diet and his feathers were in horrible shape. With all the love and attention Stunner gets now he’ll be stunning in no time!

Rescues
Amanda (gonetodeebirds) rescued a wonderful Catalina Macaw this month. She also rescued many baby birds and continues to take care of them and find loving homes for all of them.

Whether you’re thinking about buying your first bird, or you already have a feathered friend, you should know that there are things that you need to do. You need to buy a suitable cage, toys, good food. But you also need to think about clipping or flighting a bird. Clipping a bird is when you take a pair of cat/dog nail clipped or wing trimming scissors and cut some or all of the primary flight feathers at the primary coverts.

Pros-Most of the time, the main reason for clipping is safety. Unclipped birds that are unfamiliar with their surroundings can bang into windows or walls, this can cause severe damage which can sometimes be fatal. A bird that is properly clipped should not be able to get any lift, thus eliminating the problem. Fully flighted birds can also fly out of open doors or windows, never to be seen again. A clipped bird can still get outside, but it won’t be able to get as high or as far, and most of the time can be caught with ease.

Another reason people clip their birds is for training and bonding purposes. A clipped bird has to rely on you for transportation, which can help speed up the bonding process. It’s also easier to teach a bird tricks such as “step up”, when they are clipped.

Cons-A lot of people have other animals in the house besides birds. Animals like cats and dogs can pose dangers to a clipped bird who cannot fly away to avoid attack.

Clipped birds also are more prone to being overweight and out of shape because flying is one of their primary methods of exercising. Clipped birds should be provided with playgyms and areas where they can exercise without flying. But you can’t guarantee that your bird will be interested in these areas.

Birds are naturally inquisitive creatures and taking away their flight ability can sometimes lead to boredom. Boredom in combination with the sharp edges that are sometimes left after a clip can lead to feather plucking, especially among the larger birds, such as Macaws and Cockatoos.

When you are deciding whether or not to clip, you should take all of these factors into consideration and talk it over with your avian vet. It is a personal decision and neither is the “right” or “wrong” thing to do.

The Budgie Adventures: Mr. Bibble & Darla
by Tweetsnsylv

There were a lot of noises coming from the bird room. Budgies, Darla and Mr. Bibble, couldn't see a thing. Their cage was still covered. They sat and waited to be uncovered.
There cage was finally uncovered, it had felt like days had passed when they first heard the noises that morning.
"Good morning you two," Marcus called into their cage. He put their breakfast dish in the cage. A delicious assortment of cooked vegetables, covered witha crunchy, pellet topping awaited the two at the bottom of the cage. But Darla and Mr. Bibble weren't paying attention to the breakfast because things had been added across the room.
There was a rather large cage, on top of that, a wooden playstand (one larger than their budgie sized one), and more drawers, already filled with bird supplies.
"Do you think that's all for us?" asked Darla.
"No," replied Mr. Bibble, "We already have a cage and all that stuff."
"Yeah, you're right," said Darla.
Marcus reappeared in the room. This time with another bird on his hand. A bird larger than Mr. Bibble and Darla. Marcus walked over to the new cage and put the new addition inside, closing the door.

XO Training Group

"Stick training is increasing in popularity as it is an excellent way to get your bird to step up. Grab a perch and push gently against your bird's lower stomach and say "step up". Your bird will gladly step up due to the fact that it's a perch and not your finger. This is an easy way to get a scared or territorial bird in and out of the cage for easy training."-Liz
