Bird of the Month
by Andie_Mcbride

Breed and sex: Peachfaced Lovebirds. Sex unknown, unless I were to guess.
Names: Maddee, Gilligan and Angel
When did you get them: Maddee came into my life on May 21, 2006, Gilligan arrived June 16, 2006, and Angel was adopted on August 31, 2006
Which one did you purchase first: My first little one was Maddee.
What persuaded you to purchase the other two: I felt that she needed a friend and that's when Gilligan came into the picture. Angel was adopted because her previous owner was going to college and I felt that the right thing to do was to give her a forever home.
What attracted you to this breed: They were the first type of birds I ever wanted, but I never really got the oppourtunity to make that reality until now.
Do you plan on getting any more love birds in the future: I was thinking of getting Angel a friend, but now that Emerson has had his issues I put that on hold.
Describe their personalities briefly: Maddee is the tough cookie, nothing gets by her unharmed. Oh! also she waddles like a penguin. Gilligan is the most calm one, but yet skittish. He is also blind in one eye, so things are rather tough for him. Angel is the angel of the bunch, her shyness often gets to her, but never lasts.
Are they trained: Yes all of them are trained to some extent. They know the basics, and the rest they do what they want.
What methods of training did you use: I don't really use training methods, I guess just clipping their wings and spending quality time with each of them.
Which one is the shyest: Angel of course.

Rainbow Bridge Obituaries

Little Boy Blue, enjoyed playing with his mirrors, he would sit there for hours chattering away. He also picked up the wolf whislte and the other sounds Miss Daisy made. I loved to watch him fly. Once his flight feathers grew in, he was such a graceful and quick little flyer. He would take laps around the living room dining room and kitchen (open floor plan) and then land of the atom ball thing I made and just play there for hours. He loved Miss Daisy and followed her everywhere, however Miss Daisy didn't feel the same way towards him. I know Little Boy Blue is flying free now and he will be missed.-Angela
Kid loved to cuddle with his pink bunny...the pink bunny arrived with Kid...his weaning buddy from the breeder....so he would have something familiar with him in new home...but was starting to bond with me and leave the bunny behind when he passed.... after the first few days...he would happily eat anything I gave him and since I put his different food dishes in seperate places in cage...he would even go to an area and tap the cage door with his beak.. to ask for a particular kind of food....
Pink and grey cuddly baby.. that was ALL heart.. even though he was born with a defective heart.. that killed him... his time was tooo short in this world..-Suz
Bunny, you were only with us for 1 day because you were very sick but we miss you and care for you still. Fly free Bunny.-Liz

The Budgie Adventures: Mr. Bibble & Darla
by Tweetsnsylv
Mr. Bibble and Darla just woke up. Their human, Marcus, was getting their breakfast ready. Marcus was the human that cared and love them. He came back to the room, without breakfast.
"Did we do something wrong?" asked Mr. Bibble.
"No...well..." Darla wondered, "We did leave those presents."
"I don't think he would have gotten mad over that," Mr. Bibble said. Marcus opened their cage door. He put his hand in the cage and the two budgies stepped onto his hand.
"Where do you think he's taking us?" worried Darla. Her eyes darted around the room in worry.
"Probably just letting us out...to stretch our wings," he said doubtfully.
"Oh well don't you just make me feel better," she snapped in a sarcastic tone.
"Well I was at least trying," Mr. Bibble snapped back. Marcus turned into a room and closed the door. Mr. Bibble and Darla looked around. They noticed a large tub with all sorts of thing-a-ma-jigs and a weird basin type seat, covered with a lid. They then noticed breakfast! An assortment of delicious veggies, sprinkled with pellets and a little scrambled egg. The two immediately flew from their hand perch and to breakfast.
Marcus sat on the basin seat and watched the two dive into their breakfast. The two making a mess as they ate. Getting full Darla looked up. She saw another pair of birds, and another human.

XO Training Group
by Liz
"Number 1 Rule of Training: No shoulder birds! Do not ever let your bird get to your shoulder and make sure the top of his cage is below your shoulders. The worst thing you can ever do is allow a bird to have shoulder dominance. Many parrot owners allow this because this is what they see on television but I never allow a bird on my shoulder and I most likely never will allow one there. If a birds eyes are above your shoulder, they suddenly are more dominant than you and they will attack you if you aren't careful. Instead, teach your bird to sit calmly on your arm or hand."-Liz
