XO Parrots Book Club

The book of the month is Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill: A Love Story by Mark Bittner.

From the Publisher

The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill is the inspiring story of how one man found his life’s work—and true love—among a gang of wild parrots roosting in one of America’s most picturesque urban settings.

Mark Bittner was down on his luck. He’d gone to San Francisco at the age of twenty-one to take a stab at a music career, but he hadn’t had much success. After many years as an odd-jobber in the area, he accepted work as a housekeeper for an elderly woman. The gig came with a rent-free studio apartment on the city’s famed Telegraph Hill, which had somehow become home to a flock of brilliantly colored wild parrots.

In this unforgettable story, Bittner recounts how he became fascinated by the birds and made up his mind to get to know them and gain their trust. He succeeds to such a degree that he becomes the local wild parrot expert and a tourist attraction. People can’t help gawking at the man who, during daily feedings, stands with parrots perched along both arms and atop his head. When a documentary filmmaker comes along to capture the phenomenon on film, the story takes a surprising turn, and Bittner’s life truly takes flight. Mark Bittner is the subject of a documentary film, also titled The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, directed by Judy Irving. The film qualified for consideration in the “Best Feature Documentary” category in the 2003 Academy Awards. Mark still lives in San Francisco on Telegraph Hill.

Arcade Overview
by Meghanxx4

For those of you who have yet to check out the arcade, it offers over 150 games and tournaments daily. Here are just some of my personal favourites.

Throw Eggs: This game is probably my favourite because you shoot people with eggs. The object is too shooting as many people with eggs in the time given.
Chicken Fly: Chicken Fly is another one of my favourites. The object is to throw the chicken in the center of the target. You get 15 shots to get the highest score.
Bunny Honey: I think Bunny Honey is also a really cute game to play. The object is to get the jars of honey and find the key and enter the doors to the next level. But it’s not quite that easy, theres a timer to it, theres also bonus levels aswell.

So there you have it, ‘Throw eggs’, a great comedy for people who love pranks. ‘Chicken Fly’ is also another funny comedy for those who like bullseye sort of games. Lastly ‘Bunny Honey’ is a great game for those who just want to play cute fun game to entertain them selves. If none of these games sound appealing to you then check out the rest of the arcade.

Ask Jim
by Shannara

Dear Jim, I was planning on adding some Apple cider Vinegar to my bird's drinking water. How much should I add and how often should I use it?

"I use Bragg organic raw unfiltered ACV. I find it next to the regular vinegar at Albertsons. I don't use quite as much as stated above. I use the lid from the 16 oz bottle to measure out 2 or 3 capfuls to 3 to 4 cups of water. I do this for about a week every month to month and a half." -Jim

Ask Suz
by Stickvilla

Dear Suz, can I feed my Cockatiel cooked foods as her main source of food, rather than pellets?

Do you want to know the answer? Then see what Suz said here.
