Name: Sandy A.

How many birds do you own? 6 budgies and 1 Peach-Fronted Conure on the way someday.

How old are they? The budgies all all about 7 months old already. The PFC is 12 weeks Are there any other pets around? We have 3 Dogs Rusty, an adoption, Rocky a Blue Dapple Mini Dachshund, and Penny a clear Red Dachshunds, and 3 cats all adoptions.

What do you do in your spare time? I love to cross stitch for a hobby but most of my time is spent taking care of my family and I love talking with the people on XO .

Favorite sport? Food? and Book? I love Nascar. Go Tony! and Football I cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers but I've been known to cheer for an underdog team that no one thinks will do anything. I love pizza. I make a great buffalo chicken pizza anything Italian. Books I wish I had more time to read. I love a good romance novel.

What made you decide on getting your first fid? We had talked about it but I was at a Pamper Chef party at my cousins and she had three of them. And they sat in the corner in their cage being very good and making the little noise they do before sleep and I thought how cute. The girls were with me and it didn't take long for them to fall in love also. Two weeks later we were off to the pet store and haven't regret a minute of it. We only started with 3 but three easily turned 6.

What has become your favorite part of the site to visit? The pictures. I love to look at the pictures

On a grand scale of 1 to 10 how much would you say you love XO Parrots? I would have to give it a 10 and that is not sucking up. The people here are so great. They are always there when someone needs a shoulder or an answer. There are all so friendly and stick up for one another.

This time, my hot buy comes from My Bird Store. The item I'm looking at is a 4x6 ceramic picture frame with african greys all around the side. It's beautiful and realistic, and at 16.99, it's a steal. This website has everything from pellets to toys, playgyms and books and videos. I recommend everyone visit this website and check out the cool stuff. Enjoy!

See the site and get the frame.

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire.

From the Publisher

Is this new land a place where magics really happen?
From Gregory Maguire, the acclaimed author of Wicked, comes his much-anticipated second novel, a brilliant and provocative retelling of the timeless Cinderella tale.
In the lives of children, pumpkins can turn into coaches, mice and rats into human beings.... When we grow up, we learn that it's far more common for human beings to turn into rats....
We all have heard the story of Cinderella, the beautiful child cast out to slave among the ashes. But what of her stepsisters, the homely pair exiled into ignominy by the fame of their lovely sibling? What fate befell those untouched by beauty . . . and what curses accompanied Cinderella's exquisite looks?
Extreme beauty is an affliction
Set against the rich backdrop of seventeenth-century Holland, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister tells the story of Iris, an unlikely heroine who finds herself swept from the lowly streets of Haarlem to a strange world of wealth, artifice, and ambition. Iris's path quickly becomes intertwined with that of Clara, the mysterious and unnaturally beautiful girl destined to become her sister.
Clara was the prettiest child, but was her life the prettiest tale?
While Clara retreats to the cinders of the family hearth, burning all memories of her past, Iris seeks out the shadowy secrets of her new household--and the treacherous truth of her former life.
God and Satan snarling at each other like dogs.... Imps and fairy godmotbers trying to undo each other's work. How we try to pin the world between opposite extremes!
Far more than a mere fairy-tale,Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is a novel of beauty and betrayal, illusion and understanding, reminding us that deception can be unearthed--and love unveiled--in the most unexpected of places.

Arcade Overview
by Meghanxx4

For those who have yet to visit the arcade, I encourage you all to play some games and have some fun. You don’t even have to be great at games just have fun. The Arcade includes a selection of over 180 games, and daily tournaments and here are just a few games chosen from the arcade.
This week’s games include: Air Balls, Bogan Surf and Classic Frogger.

Air Balls: In the arcade game ‘Air Balls’ your job is to move the character around hitting the balls off the characters head. If you drop the balls too many times or if it goes out of bounds then it’s game over. The object of the game is to keep as many balls in the air as possible while getting the highest score. Good luck, have fun and don’t drop the balls!

Bogan Surf: During the game ‘Bogan Surf’ your job is to navigate the surfer using the arrow keys and spacebar to do tricks. The more tricks you do the more points you gain. If you wipe out too many times you get a game over. You love to show off your moves then go play ‘Bogan Surf’ and see what you can do on a surf board.

Classic Frogger: Classic Frogger is a game that is very well known as it has been around for many years. The object is to get as many frogs to the other side and pass each level in the shortest amount of time as well as get the most points. You must because of the crocodiles, cars and also be careful not to fall in the water. Have fun and don’t get run over.

That concludes this week’s Arcade Review!

Rainbow Bridge Obituaries
by Jessika

Bewbi was just settling into her new home when she fell ill. Her owner Scott tried his hardest to save her, but sadly she passed away at 2:41. She was around for only a few short weeks, but her life has been imprinted on us all RIP Bewbie.

Bud Bud was a beautiful blue and white budgie. Heidy gave into your cuteness and bought you. After just a short while, your cage door was accidentally left open and you flew to Rainbow Bridge. You will be missed, and never forgotten. RIP Budgie AKA BudBud.

New Arrival's
by JuliesGonnaDance

Glaze
Elise (CBBMG*) brought home a little budgie girl on June 10th. She was at the pet store looking at cages and saw a poor little budgie being picked on, so she decided to bring her home with the new cage. Glaze is adorable with beautiful coloring and we love seeing her pictures on the forums.

Holly
Jess (7378jessica) finally got to bring home her Congo African Grey on June 13th. She had been waiting till she was properly weaned, but kept us all updated with pictures. We loved watching her grow and now that she’s home we can’t wait to see all the pictures and videos of this gorgeous bird.

Calypso
Shannon (amindbesideitself) adopted Calypso from the pet store she worked at after falling in love with her. She’s a Peach-Fronted Conure and gets into everything she can find. We all hope to see more of her on the forums, and wish the two of them the best.

Joey
Heidy (HbsGarden) brought home a new little budgie boy on June 20th, after losing her Bud Bud. She named him after her mom’s old budgie she had while growing up. He’s a cutie and we wish them many happy years together.

Finches
Scott (scottieeee) got two Zebra finches on June 21st as an early birthday present from his brother. He has yet to name them. He eventually plans on breeding them; we wish him luck and hope to see some healthy little chicks in the future.

Peaches & Maggie
Peaches and Maggie are Amanda's (gonetodeebirds) new birds at her rescue. Peaches is an adorable female lovebird and is in the process of being adopted out. Maggie is a rescue and coming from a horrible home in San Francisco. We all know that Amanda will do awesome with these birds and hope they find new forever homes soon.

Makena
Kila got Makena, a sixth month old TAG, as a graduation present. The long wait to bring her home is finally over. We know Makena will be spoiled rotten and hope the two of them have many happy years together.

Debate Central
by Jessika

In a perfect pet store, the cages would be large enough to let the animal roam. All employees would be knowledgeable about all animals, and their care. Food and water would be changed regularly, cages cleaned on a daily basis. There would be store vets, and before a customer would be allowed to buy an animal they would be required to read a book, or attend a class.
Unfortunately, I don't know one pet shop in existence that works like this. So here's the question; should pet stores be allowed to sell animals?
Most pet stores are not so bad, but there are horror stories about pet stores that leave their animals without food and water for days, that leave dead animals in cages, and sell animals sick. These stores are few and far between around here, but hearing these stories makes me want to stay away from ALL pet stores forever. That really isn't fair for stores that treat their animals with respect and take good care of them.
There is also the issue of animal shelters being overcrowded because pet stores sell animals to impulse buyers who think that the animal is "cute" and take it home on a whim, only to later find out that they can't take care of it, or that it bites. They take these animals to the shelters; more and more arrive every day.
We can make a difference. When you visit your local pet shop, check out the cages, if you see anything wrong, you can point it out to a manager. If they don't do anything about it, you can call the SPCA. You can ask the pet shop to put up a flyer with our website so that anyone who buys a parrot can check us out. Think carefully before you buy an animal, ask yourself, "Do I really have the time, energy, and resources to take care of this living creature?" Most of the time it is a lifetime commitment and it shouldn't be taken lightly.
You can adopt or rescue animals instead of buying them from a pet shop. Adopting an animal can sometimes be less expensive, and far more rewarding.

Awesome Week

Fredrik is growing up! His owner MnA had some things to say about him.
"I have noticed that Fredrik is developing his iris, and losing his little innocent black eye. I can't believe that soon enough he is going to start molting, and be changing into a young boy instead of a baby boy.
I also have noticed that he has been trying to mimic things. I caught him a few times singing to his mirror, but he wasn't chirping. It was like a small raspy voice that budgies who can talk have." -Mauro Your baby is growing up!

"Not all birds are happy sitting around while you're out of the house, especially when they have the same boring old toys they've had for over a month in their cage. Once a week you should move everything around the cage, including switching food and water bowls and moving perches around. This will allow your bird a new environment every week and keep your bird stimulated, happy, and calm. Your bird will have more fun in his/her cage and the "cabin fever" will lift."-Liz
